Hunger
Basics:
- 🍗 Feed hungry fish before they start starving.
- 💊 Add drops of medication to the tank when they are ill.
- 🧽 Scrub the tank with the sponge to clean it.
- 🥄 Scoop fish into storage if needed.
- 🐟 Move fish between tank and storage.
- 🌿 Move decor between tank and storage.

Tips:
- 💔 Starving fish can lose health.
- 💖 Food restores hunger and comfort. Use medicine to restore lost health.
- 💩 Fish poop 1 to 3 hours after eating and it settles on the gravel.
- 🏚️ Bigger fish and more fish make grime build up faster.
- 🐠 Sucker fish help slow grime build-up.
Coins:
- 🪙 Each fish's first rewarded feeding of the day earns its listed Feeding Care value, up to 8 coins total per day.
- 🧽 Cleaning at 25% grime or higher earns coins. Dirtier tanks pay more.
- ☀️ Daily recaps and milestones award coins automatically.
- 🪨 Fish may find coins in the gravel, and eligible fish or tanks can be sold.

Company Profile / Adaptive Biology
A different answer to extinction
For generations, conservation asked the same question: how do we restore the world that endangered species once depended upon?
Proteus Biodyne began with another.
What if they no longer needed it?
Human civilization has altered the planet faster than many organisms can naturally adapt. Oceans warm. Habitats contract. Ecosystems disappear. Restoration remains important, but restoration is measured in decades, centuries, and sometimes millennia.
Dr. Nolan Voss believed survival could not be asked to wait.
Proteus was founded on the principle that biology itself could become adaptable infrastructure. Rather than rebuilding an entire ocean for a species that requires it, we can reduce the requirements of the species.
Size. Metabolism. Temperature tolerance. Diet. Behavior. Disease resistance. Reproduction.
A habitat no longer needs to be vast if its occupant no longer needs vastness.
In captivity, properly engineered life can thrive.
Origins
The work before Proteus
Long before founding Proteus Biodyne, Dr. Voss led research into a more fundamental limitation: the human lifespan.
His work eventually produced one of the defining technologies of the modern era, the successful digitization and preservation of human consciousness.
Voss became its first enduring subject.
His consciousness has been fully digitized, while his original biological body is maintained separately in a state of medically induced stasis, continuous cellular repair, and intensive life support. He may return to that body when required, allowing periods of physical existence to be separated by years or even decades of storage.
At the time of this writing, Dr. Voss is 150 years old.
He has described longevity not as immortality, but as additional time to finish the work.
Most of humanity does not have that luxury.
As Voss has often observed, repairing centuries of planetary damage over the course of another thousand years may be scientifically possible. Expecting generations of ordinary human beings to devote their entire lives to waiting for the result is another matter.
Proteus chose the shorter path.
Preservation
Life, temporarily elsewhere
Proteus preservation technology allows a living organism to be completely digitized and retained in secure storage.
While stored, the organism experiences no hunger, aging, discomfort, or perception of passing time. To the subject, there is no meaningful interval between departure and return.
The technology was first demonstrated successfully in humans decades ago.
Dr. Nolan Voss remains its most famous living example.
Human digitization is commercially available today.
It is also prohibitively expensive.
A complete human consciousness requires immense computational infrastructure, redundant storage, continuous integrity verification, medical support, and a biological host capable of surviving long-term preservation. Even the least elaborate programs remain beyond the financial reach of nearly everyone alive.
Aquatic organisms presented a different opportunity.
Their smaller nervous systems allowed Proteus to dramatically reduce the storage, processing, and preservation requirements involved. What began as one of the most expensive medical technologies ever developed could finally become something routine.
Proteus did not arrive at this solution by attempting to overcome biology.
It arrived there by studying what biology had already accomplished.
In nature, survival is not always continuous.
Certain aquatic animals can endure conditions that would ordinarily be incompatible with life, dramatically suppressing metabolism or surviving partial freezing until favorable conditions return. To the observer, the organism appears suspended. Then the environment changes, and life simply continues.
Proteus refers to this principle as biological continuity.
The same survivability architecture now forms a foundational component of Proteus engineering. Every Proteus organism is designed not merely to tolerate its environment, but to endure interruption, deprivation, instability, and conditions its ancestors were never equipped to survive.
Cold. Heat. Scarcity. Confinement. Transport. Storage.
Survival should not depend upon the world remaining hospitable.
It should be built into the organism.
A fish may now be removed from an aquarium, stored indefinitely, and restored when its owner is ready.
One moment it is there. The next, it is home again.Proteus continues working to reduce the cost of human storage.
The company maintains that widespread access is not a question of possibility.
Only scale.
Conscious Experience
Beyond storage
Proteus researchers are already exploring systems capable of supplying constructed sensory environments directly to stored consciousness.
The implications extend far beyond preservation.
Recreation. Long-distance travel. Hospitalization. Recovery. Incarceration.
A stored subject need not experience the duration of any of them.
Engineering Platform
Biology does not have to remain as we found it
Proteus conducts advanced biological engineering across hundreds of aquatic species.
Selective gene editing. Accelerated breeding. Growth regulation. Induced mutation. Engineered organs. Behavioral modification. Metabolic restructuring.
Some programs solve immediate conservation problems.
Others answer questions whose usefulness may not become apparent for decades.
The Scaled Selachimorph began as one such question.
Could the regenerative resilience of large sharks be retained in an organism small enough to be studied safely, continuously, and under complete environmental control?
The result was an animal approximately the size of a common aquarium fish that retained biological systems of extraordinary interest to researchers studying tissue repair, immunity, disease resistance, and human longevity.
The Scaled Selachimorph was not designed to replace the shark.
It was designed to preserve what made the shark worth saving.
Its success became one of the foundational breakthroughs of modern Proteus engineering.
Project Reclamation™
Nothing useful is wasted
The recently announced Project Reclamation™ extends that philosophy beyond life itself.
Through Project Reclamation™, aquarium owners may donate deceased aquatic companions to Proteus at no cost.
Proteus understands that surrendering a companion after death can be difficult.
Participants are reminded that each donation contributes to research whose applications extend far beyond aquatic life. What is learned from one specimen may someday help preserve a household pet, a working animal, or a human family member.
What happens afterward is handled entirely by Proteus.
The Road Ahead
The world that produced the species we love is changing.
Some of it can be repaired.
Some of it cannot.
Proteus Biodyne does not believe life should disappear simply because the environment that created it has.
There are other possibilities.
The damage has already been done.
The question now is not whether the world can return to what it was.
The question is what life must become in order to remain within it.
A future does not need to resemble the past to be considered a success.
It only needs occupants.
